The need for a Better Traffic System in Kathmandu (opinion writing)

 


 Kathmandu, the vibrant capital of Nepal, is known for its rich history, cultural heritage, and warm hospitality. However one aspect that has become a cause of frustration for both residents and visitors alike is the unmanaged traffic system. The bustling streets of Kathmandu are often characterized by congestion, lack of traffic control, and a disregard for road rules. It's high time we address this issue and work towards implementing a more efficient and organized traffic system.

 Anyone who has experienced the traffic in Kathmandu knows the feeling of being stuck in a never-ending stream of vehicles. The lack of proper traffic management leads to chaotic intersections, gridlocks, and unnecessary delays. This not only affects the daily commute of individuals but also has a negative impact on productivity and the overall quality of life in the city.

 The unmanaged traffic system in Kathmandu poses significant safety risks for both drivers and pedestrians. Reckless driving, disregard for traffic signals, and a general lack of road discipline contribute to a high number of accidents and injuries. It is crucial that we prioritize the safety of all road users by implementing effective traffic management strategies.

 The excessive traffic congestion in Kathmandu also has severe environmental consequences. The constant idling of vehicles leads to increased air pollution, contributing to respiratory problems and other health issues. Implementing a more efficient traffic system, such as promoting public transportation and encouraging carpooling, can help reduce the number of vehicles on the road and mitigate the environmental impact.

 The unmanaged traffic system in Kathmandu also has economic implications. The time wasted in traffic congestion translates into lost productivity for individuals and businesses. Additionally, the wear and tear on vehicles due to constant stop and go traffic increase maintenance costs for vehicle owners. By improving the traffic system, we can create a more conductive environment for economic growth and development.

 To address the unmanaged traffic system in Kathmandu, it is essential to focus on several key areas. First and foremost, there is a need for better infrastructure, including wider roads, well-designed intersections, and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure. Additionally, the implementation of smart traffic management systems, such as intelligent traffic signals and real time traffic monitoring, can help optimize .

Many poetry, stories, and novels are written about the suffering and love of mothers, but there are only few stories written in favour of fathers. And Karnali Blues is one of the ‘father’s’book. Karnali Blues depicts a father- son relationship where the narration is through the son (young boy’s) eyes. It tells how he sees his father throughout his entire life. The story begins with the narrator (son, Brishbahadur) recalling his younger days as he rushes towards hospital to see his father (Harshabahadur), lying on deathbed.
